Annual Exams

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends that gynecological visits begin between the ages of 13 & 15, or when you become sexually active.

During your exam you should expect a general physical exam that will include a chest/breast exam and pelvic exam (and Pap testing per physician recommendation).

Cancer Prevention

AWC offers the Gardasil® vaccine for children and women between the ages of 9 & 26. This vaccine helps prevent certain strains of HPV, the virus linked with cervical cancer & genital warts.

We also offer abnormal Pap test management which may include Colposcopy Fact Sheet or LEEP Fact Sheet.

Problem Visits

You should make an appointment immediately if you are experiencing any of the following problems:

  • Unusual pain, discharge, itching or bumps in or around the vagina
  • Exposure to a sexually transmitted infection (STI)
  • Severe pain during periods or irregular periods
  • Discharge from the nipple, changes in the size or the skin of the chest/breast

Treatment for Heavy Periods

If you are experiencing heavy and/or irregular bleeding with your periods, you may be eligible for Novasure®, an endometrial ablation that is performed in our office. Novasure® is a quick, safe & simple procedure to lighten or stop your periods. There is no need for hormones or hysterectomy. The procedure is covered by most insurances. Ask our physicians about Novasure®.

STI Testing/Treatment

We recommend that all women under the age of 26 have a yearly gonorrhea & chlamydia test. We also offer testing for other STIs including hepatitis, syphilis & HIV.

AWC offers low cost testing for patients without insurance.

Peri & Post-Menopausal Care

As women transition through menopause, hormonal changes, as well as an increased risk for certain conditions, make yearly exams and regular screenings all the more important. We can help with a preventative care plan. From immunizations, osteoporosis screening, nutrition and exercise assessment, heart disease prevention, cancer screenings to hormone replacement therapy, our medical director can offer care to help you continue to preserve good health at every stage.

Pregnancy Testing

We offer free, walk-in pregnancy testing. After testing, a counselor is available to discuss your options for following through with pregnancy which include parenting, allowing someone else to raise your child, or making an adoption plan. If you choose not to continue the pregnancy, you can also discuss your abortion care options.
